  • January

    10th, 1931: The Prince of Wales is introduced to Mrs Ernest Simpson for the first time at a house party in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, England.

    20th, 1936: David’s father, George V dies. David succeeds him as King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Emperor of India.

  • February

    8th, 1869: Wallis’ father, Teackle Wallis Warfield, is born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

  • March

    8th, 1937: David is created Duke of Windsor by his brother, King George VI.

  • April

    24th, 1986: Wallis, Duchess of Windsor dies in Paris, France. She is 89 years old.

    29th, 1986: Wallis’ funeral is held at St George’s Chapel, Windsor. She is buried next to David at the Royal Burial Ground at Frogmore.

  • May

    6th, 1897: Ernest Aldrich Simpson is born in New York City, USA.

    27th, 1937: King George VI issues Letters Patent denying Wallis the title of Royal Highness.

    28th, 1972: The Duke of Windsor dies in Paris, France at the age of 77.

    29th, 1950: Earl Winfield Spencer Jr, Wallis’ first husband, dies at the age of 61 in Coronado, California, USA.

    3rd, 1937: David and Wallis are married at the Château de Candé in Tours, France.

    7th, 1967: Wallis is received publicly by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in London for the first time at the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the life of Queen Mary, the Duke of Windsor’s mother.

    19th, 1896: Bessie Wallis Warfield is born in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania, USA.

    23rd, 1894: Prince Edward of York is born at White Lodge, Richmond Park, England.

    23rd, 1910: Prince Edward of York is created Prince of Wales by his father, King George V.

  • July

    13th, 1911: David is officially invested as Prince of Wales in a ceremony at Caernarfon Castle in Wales.

  • August

    19th, 1864: Bessie Love Montague, Wallis’ maternal aunt, is born.

    18th, 1940: The Duke of Windsor begins his appointment as Governor of the Bahamas

  • September

    20th, 1888: Earl Winfield Spencer Jr is born in Kinsley, Kansas, USA.

  • October

    27th, 1936: Wallis is granted a decree nisi with a view to dissolving her second marriage to Ernest Simpson.

  • November

    2nd, 1929: Wallis’ mother, Anne Montague Warfield, dies in Washington, USA at the age of 59.

    8th, 1916: Wallis marries her first husband, Earl Winfield Spencer Jr in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

    15th, 1896: Wallis’ father, Teackle Wallis Warfield, dies from tuberculosis aged just 27 years old.

    16th, 1936: The King informs Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin that he intends to abdicate if he cannot marry Wallis.

    19th, 1895: Wallis’ parents, Teackle Wallis Warfield & Anne Montague, are married in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

    28th, 1964: Wallis’ Aunt Bessie dies in Washington, USA at the grand age of 100 years old.

    30th, 1869: Wallis’ mother, Alice Montague, is born in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

    30th, 1958: Wallis’ second husband Ernest Simpson dies in London, England at the age of 61.

  • December

    3rd, 1936: The King’s romance with Wallis is reported in the British press for the first time.

    10th, 1927: Wallis’ marriage to Earl Winfield Spencer Jr is dissolved by divorce.

    10th, 1936: King Edward VIII abdicates in order to marry Wallis.
